Thanked: 13Hello from Holland across the Atlantic
Hello fellow members,
For the first time in over 40 years I shaved myself with a straight razor. It is not exactly like riding a bicycle: it rather felt like I had never done it before. Apart from a few little cuts and the need to finish the awkward parts with my daily safety razor, the results are encouraging and I will continue to shave myself in this fashion after the cuts are healed.
I got my first straight razor from my dad over 40 years ago, which I used for some time, teaching myself how to use it I remember getting rather good at it, being able to use both hands. I am certain that all of it will come back in time.
I was pleased to notice that there is a whole community of men who like me who (re)discovered the time honored traditional way of shaving. I will enjoy reading some of your stories on this forum and maybe enter one or two of my own,
Greetings.

Thanked: 983Welcome to the forum John Peter. I look forward to reading your stories. Maybe one about what you remember it to be like shaving 40 years ago compared now, as a Born again Cut-Throat .

johnpeter, a hearty welcome to a mature straight razor user. While it is good for our craft to welcome and encourage the younger members to use a straight, I am always doubly pleased when an older man discovers, or in your case re discovers the joy of straight razor shaving. I know it will all come back, muscle memory is long. I look forward to your reactions to those areas you thought you knew from back then but have been advancing over the years. As always, we ask new members to read the wikis, view the videos and ask, ask, ask any questions on your mind. I also look forward to your comments on shaving 40 years ago.

Thanked: 13An excellent suggestion Mick, I hadn't thought of that one yet. I will do so in a month or so, once I start getting halfway decent results. I do have a few other idea's and experiences in relation to the topic I like to share with you guy's (and girls) in the coming weeks.
Greetings,
John Peter.
