What type of razor did you order from Straight Razor Designs? Did you purchase the razor by itself or did you get the complete set (razor + strop, etc.)?
    A Ralf Aust - Solingen 5/8".

Hi domenique, and welcome, as has been said, take things slowly, very slowly, no, very very slowly. I would have abrowse through the beginners and shaving with a straight razor forums, you will see a lot of similar posts regarding issues with early shaves, not that we arent willing to share, but more that you will be at least somewhat prepared.
Have you also ordered/ do you own a brush, strop, and soap and or cream? They are the absolute basics you are going to need. If you already have them, you can practice making good lather and also learn a good stropping technique using a butterknife or similar. If you dont have a strop yet you can practice on a strip of pretty much anything that is as wide as whatever strop you are getting, just clamp it in a bulldog clip and hang her up. Dont use your actual razor for this
Dont expect miracles at first either, steady, comfortable progress is good progress.
Anyway when you get your gear let us know what you dont know and we will certainly try our best to help you out.
Still have to order those. Here in Namibia is no shops, and the exchange rate is not friendly at all when ordering online. I have been using a synthetic brush when shaving with my Schick razor(fancy 5 blade).

Was thinking about ordering a silvertip and not to expensive strop.

Well you could just get a strop made locally, or even make one yourself, a strip of smooth leather is pretty much the bare bones of what is required, hardware can be made from pretty much anything, i used door hinges. There are a few threads about making strops, it really isnt that hard. As for a brush, most chemists/pharmacies will sell a non synthetic brush which should be ok, well in australia and the uk anyway.

G'day Dom, welcome to the forum. If you're trying to keep cost down, making your own strop is a start. Like Ed said, it isn't all that hard. You could even knock up your own brush if you are handy with a bit of wood. you would have to get a hold of a 'knot' (the fuzzy bit of the brush that you use to apply lather to your face with) and they can be had in a variety of sizes from here: Fountain Pen parts - NIBS, - Wholesale Fountain Pen Ink - Golden Nib AZ a pen makers shop that stocks brush making bits as well. That, and a bit of epoxy glue, and you're in business.
