Hello from Clearwater, Fl
Hello everyone,
I am relatively new to straight razor shaving, even though I have already posted a couple of threads. I have shaved 9 times so far and I am hooked. So far I only shave with the grain. I am waiting to become comfortable WTG before I try other passes. I actually bought my razor here in the classifieds and have already repined it with new scales.
My tools:
Shaving Cream: Proraso
Brush: Whipped Dog 24mm
Razor: Joesph, Smith & Sons 5/8
Aftershave: Proraso
Thanks,
mafuzul

Welcome; you seem to be off to a good start.
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

You're starting the right way, slow and methodical. Keep reading and watching and asking questions if you need clarifications on any point or area.

Thank You Gentlemen!
here's my plan, I do not want to collect razors. I like the idea of shaving my face with 1 very beautiful lethal weapon that I know how to use and maintain. I'm looking into upgrading my razor and using my current one to practice sharping.
I know the basic sharpening stones set-up is 220, 1k, 4k, 8k grits, and the first sharpening should be done by professionals, but when its my turn I want to be ready.
I do not want to collect stones, strops, pastes, supplies, etc, etc. I would like to have the bare minimum supplies as I'm thinking that force me to practice more with one razor, one strop, one stone? I do not think I need 220/1k stones because if my razor needs that much work, I better off sending it to professionals
I've read somewhere in these forums that a barbers hone alone can be used to maintain a razor for life? What is the difference between a barbers hone and a sharpening stone. from what I can find a barbers hone is about 8,000 grit, is that the same as 8,000 grit sharpening stone? Do they still make barber hones?
again thank you very much gentlemen!Last edited by Mafuzul; 08-15-2014 at 03:08 PM.
