    Talking Hi from the Netherlands

    Hi,
I'm 39 and I've been wetshaving for about a year now. And now I decided to explore straights. One of the reasons is i hope to get a more comfortable close shave than I can get with using DE razors.
When i shave with DE its usually a choice between close and comfortable and the latter has my preference. So reading that some people had better shaves with a straight than with a DE got me interested.
i don't expect it to be easy at start but i will see were it will lead me and if its for me or not.

I ordered this used razor for starters and will probably get another straight on Sunday. it comes shave ready

    now so much to learn

    regards

Welcome, Julyan to SRP. First question is did you order the razors from a dealer? Often, if not mostly, razors stated shave ready are not so and require professional honing before use. Other than pro honers SRP Mentors and experienced senior members will offer to hone your razor to shave ready level. Go to the top right of the page and type in Local Help in the search box. A long list by Countries will come up. I'm know there are a few members in the Netherlands. One very good name is Bruno. He is one of our moderators and also makes custom razors. I would PM him to see exactly where he is and if he would be willing to give you a one-on-one session to help you get started properly. Hands on face to face beats the dickens out of only being able to read and view videos.

One of the joys of this friendly forum is just that, friendly AND informative. We encourage gentlemanly discourse (and humor as it happens - a lot sometimes). Since we are spread out around the world you will get to know many shavers in different cultures. Since I joined I have developed friendships with shavers on three continents. And be sure to not hesitate to ask questions if your reading and viewing aren't giving you the answers you are looking for. Believe me, we all like to add out knowledge and experience to the forum any chance we can get.

Do PM Bruno. If he can't help you due to proximity I'm sure he can suggest someone closer to you. Welcome again and enjoy the ride we call "Wet Shaving".

Thanks for the tips and the welcome. Both razors have been made Shave ready by the sellers. 1 seller even offered me another free hone when needed for cost of postage. They both shave with straights so i think its safe to assume they know what they are doing. Is always good to have options so i will keep in mind Bruno can sharpen my straights when needed.

Welcome. Looks like you have a head start with using a DE regarding face prep, lathering, etc. Hope things go well with the SRs. Go slowly and you'll find things fall into place over time. I do get closer shaves with a SR than DE, and I'm sure you will too, once your technique is perfected. It can be a little tricky at first.
