    Default Hey all

Hello. I've been lurking around here for the last couple weeks, thought I might as well join up. Been shaving with a DE safety razor for about 2 years, purchased a shavette about 8 months ago, and I have my first straight (a brand new Dovo Bismarck) in the mail slated to arrive on Thursday. I'm pretty excited. So here's to all you straight shavers out there, I'll be picking your brains in the coming months.

    Welcome,

I hope you didn't forget to get a strop as well, but if you did you still have the time to fix it

I ordered the Whipped Dog "poor man's strop kit" (on the advice that I WILL wreck my first strop), so that should show up around the same time. My concern at the moment is that my razor is "factory shave ready", which to my understanding means "not-so-shave ready". I guess I'll have to try and find a honemeister, preferably someone close by...

Yes, usually they're just about 'shave ready' or a little under.

Welcome to SRP and the world of straight shaving!! You could always kill two birds with one stone; try to find a mentor for shaving and honing help.
Razor rich, but money poor. I should have diversified into Eschers!

Hi and welcome. Haven't heard yet of a dovo actually shave ready from the factory. You can practice your stropping with a knife while you wait for your razor to come back from being honed though. Good luck
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed
