Welcome RR (my initials also) to SRP. So glad we have influenced you in the right direction. Did you have to experiment and teach yourself to hone, or were you able to find another straight razor user near you that could help you learn the craft? What you have acquired so far is really typical of a lot of members afflicted with the various AD's. Does any one in Bulgaria make a good shaving soap? We soap addicts are always looking for something new to try out.
Did you read tthrough the Library or the FAQ? That's were so much information and advice can be found."The sharpening stones from time to time provide officers with gasoline."

Thanked: 3226Welcome to the forum. You have quite a collection of razors, hones and strops to enjoy already. I love Arko too and just shaved this morning with it and a boar brush.

Thanked: 168Yes i know a few guis , that hones and uses a straights. After reading many posts and info ,from the net i , I began to buy and learn hou to hone razors , that i restore from the flea market ,and antique shops.
I have 1 Makita 1200 grit bevel seter stone , 3 slates natural stones from 2500 to 4000 grit , 1 coticule solo / Latheuses i think / - it is near 6000 - 7000 grit - 1 turkish black lidian stone it is near 10000 i think 1 bulgarian finishing slate with slury stone , that i cut my self and laped from the mountain nearby .It is veri fine , like the thuringian but softer stone and produces slurry very eazy , without rubbing it at all . And finaly the pearl in the croun is my thuringian Esher blue - green .
I love my hones , and i hone my rasors with them . I like especialy the black turkish - it gives very agresively sharp edge and polishes amasing , and the Esher .The turkish is very hard and need a moderate presure and thin lubricant to work fast and properly . I use water , mixed with dish washing gel , because i dont like oils ,or wd- 40 . I cant hone blades on those 2 stones all day long .
I have few home made padle and stroping belts , from leather /cow hide naped / and wool felt with 2 types of pastes - rusian Goi 1 to 6 micrones and crox 0.5 Cremer pigments.
I doth have enought money to buy an expensive razors , strops and sintetic hones . I buy a second hand ,from the market , and restore them .
I buy my coti 13 x 4 sm for 6 $ q the turkifh stone for 7 $ and the Esher for 6 $ from an old watchmaker , but it is very rare to find an old razors and hones alround.
I like natural stones , now im dreaming every night - natural combo coticuleLast edited by RusenBG; 09-11-2014 at 07:33 PM.
