Thanked: 0Hello from Georgia
Hey everybody, I'm totally new to this "cut throat" shaving technique. I shaved with regular boring old disposable razors most of my life and recently (within the past 6 months or so) switched to a safety razor which I love. I figure now the only reasonable thing for me to do is graduate to the big boy league, and now I find myself here among the pros of straight razor shaving. I'm still in search of a good starter straight razor. I have a friend who has a red case red imp 132 he says he'll sell me for 10 bucks... is this a good investment? I have no idea. But I look forward to talking to everyone on here and finally turning into a real badass man through the power of straight razors

Welcome to SRP!
If the blade isn't chipped then yes that is quite a deal on imp. You should have it professionally honed though, it is worth the 25 or so dollars to start with a razor that is truly shave ready.
Make sure you check out the Beginner's Section in the Library. It will answer a lot of the basic questions that you may have.

Pictures would help to get an idea if it's worth getting to shave with. ,, but they are a great brand. Next would be as suggested , get it honed by someone who shaves with them ,, plenty of vendors here in the vendors section. Good luck. Tc

Hello and welcome. Yes Pictures would help, there's a lot more to straights than just a good name. If the razor is in good shape then yes send it out for proper honing and begin learning proper technique (so you don't cut your throat ) If you like safety's you're gonna love straights.

ONIBOY16, welcome to SRP. That is a good razor, do get it pro honed for a proper start to straight razor shaving. At this time there are no Mentors in Georgia (what part are you in?) but there is a senior member that can be of great help to you. He is in the Atlanta area. He will know who can get your blade up to working level and be more than happy to meet with you. PM Crouton976 and mention my name. And do read in the Library or the FAQ, which can lead you to more specific areas in the Library.
