Thanked: 7Hello SRP, Greetings from Slovenia
Hello everyone!
I have just registereg to this site. I'm from Slovenia (age 30). I have been looking at SRP site for a long time, and finally decided to join the group
I have been shaving with a straight razor for about half a year now and i REALLY like it. My first experience with a straight razor was not what i expected, BUT, learning things from this forum and watching videos from experts (you know who they are) my experience is getting better with every shave. Many thanks to everybody here on this site!! It really is the best site for those wishing to learn the art. Thank you!!
Since i started to jump into this hobby, i gathered 2 straights that i use to shave with, and 2 vintage razors from back in the days I really love them all! I have a couple of stones that i need - 1000/3000 naniwa, Dragon's tongue, Yellow lake, and 10000 naniwa for polish. I have some CrOx too. So i have the basic stuff to help me get started. I also made one razor from scratch BEFORE a got any real straight razor - with just a file and a lot of sand paper (will post that sometime in the future to see) and that gave me excelent experience and now that i got a real straight, i am glad i did all that hard work, because i would mees up my razors for sure if i hadn't been watching and reading things about straights and the delicate work about them
Again, i hope to contribute something to this awesome site and group, and hope to have some good time and meeting some friendly folks
I don't have any experience on this site, and my English can be a bit rough, so bare with me
Everyone, THANK YOU and wish you all some smooth shaves

Hi and welcome. Your English is fine and I wouldn't have known if you hadn't said. To make your first razor is quite an accomplishment. Definitely want to see pics.

If I managed to make a razor and not just stuff it up for my first shot I would be happy. That is a good looking razor though and if it is shaving then I would say a great success

Thanked: 7Umm, yeah it's great for a total beginner, but experts would say "Many things wrong with it".. i managed to shave one time with it, but i have real straights now and the shave is much smoother and more pleasant. I also did a lot of things wrong with it.. angle, scales, not to mention honning..width...and the list goes on But the project gave me information and experience i wouldn't have ever had if i didn't make this razor.

Hindsight is great but you can only work with the information you have. Now that you have better info you can always do so mods to improve it. Or give it another shot.
