So the razor from Vintage Razors showed up this evening. After a stroping she was ready. I picked up a vdh bowl, brush, soap set and some pinaud clubmen on my home from work. First prepped the brush, water and soap and hopped in the shower. Made a good lather and went to town. First mistake, hadn't shaved in about a week so it was a little rough. Got my confidence a little high and worked from my sideburns down past my jaw line. Once I got to the neck, I stopped and grabbed the cartridge razor to finish. I did wtg, xtg and atg. All went well. Then I rinsed cold and put some pinaud on. Big no no... Pinaud burned me like an vindictive ex wife!

There are some spots that could use some work with my technique but I'm happy I went unscathed

I usually rinse with cold water, splash on witch hazel, wait for it to dry, and then splash on the aftershave.

Jake77, I see two problems. Was the Vintage razor coming to you shave ready? If so, you needn't have stropped before you shaved. As to the 'burn', sounds like you might have been using too much pressure (a common problem, I still forget on occasion) and got irritated as a result. Lighten up on the pressure. A poster some time ago said, "Don't shave the beard, shave the lather", as a mantra to keep light presure up front. You might want to get a jar of Nivea Aftershave Balm for Sensitive Skin. Regardless of skin type it gives very good comfort and aftershaves don't burn as much.

Jake, While AZ is a large state, I have a friend who might be near enough to be able to find the time to help you one on one. If you are reluctant to include your precise location in your profile please contact me via PM or email and I'll see if it could be made to happen.

If you can get some hands on learning you will learn more in a few hours than you can in months upon months of reading, watching videos and stumbling along on your own.

I'm in Phoenix Cuda. I'm always interesting in learning a new art. Pm me with any info, I'd appreciate it.
Razor, it was sold as shave ready. I did test on my forearm hair and it was taken clean off. There was a little tugging so I figured a few laps couldn't hurt.
