What's up gentleman, new member here from Jacksonville!
Hi all! I've been lurking on this forum for sometime, reading up as much as possible before I finally bought a straight blade. I researched for a while and ended up really liking the look of those Dubl Ducks! I waited for the right one on ebay and think I landed a solid deal. It's a dubl duck goldege that came shave ready and it's in pretty great shape. I've had about 3 shaves so far and am really enjoying learning. I'm looking forward to learning as much as possible from everyone and hopefully I'll be able to put in some good input in the future. Anyways, thanks for looking!

Thanks man! I haven't picked up a strop yet, I wanted to ask for advice on here. I spent some good money on the shave products and razor but I figure there is low probability I will mess those up. The strop however, I want to get good 3" one but don't want to mess it up with inexperience. I heard about this famish made strop on Amazon that is supposed to be killer. Do you have any suggestions?

Welcome Veritas! I'm 100% new myself and haven't even purchased a razor yet but will be soon.
How did you come to the decision to get your Dubl Ducks as your first one?

Looks like you are off to a good start. Can't go wrong with a good Double Duck. Good way to start. Let us know if you have any questions.

Hi and welcome. Nice looking razor. Maybe get a SRD strop then you will be getting a quality product and if you do nick it up you can just get a new replacement peice for it.
My wife calls me.........

Thats pretty much exactly the advice i give, you get a solid strop, and the replacement leather is on par or better value than a cheap complete strop.

I seemed to read you have had a few shaves without stropping. Not good.
Get a good stop. Dovo, Jemico, SRD, ANYTHING decent. Anything top shelf! You must strop your razor and soon! JMO"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."

gotta agree get a strop ASAP the longer you wait the worse the edge will get
even stropping on your jeans on a bench top would be better than nothing at this stage
at least 100 laps before & after if only on your jeans until you get some the leather to do it properly
great starter Str8 you have also take you time & strop it well it will last a life timeSaved,
to shave another day.

Thanks all!
Yeah I thought I was going to wait to start shaving until I got a strop, but I just couldn't help myself once I got the str8 in hand. I'll hold off on shaving again until I get a strop and get the blade back in peak condition again.
@tyroneology I looked all over the net and compiled lists of the "top" razor brands. I narrowed my search down to either a Sheffield or Solignen steel blade since those seemed to have faired really well despite their ages. Then I started scouring ebay to see which blades I liked the look of and had long-term potential (from what I read). I thought the ducks looked wicked cool and from what I've heard they are some of the best blades around.
I do have some questions though about how to get the blade back to an absolute mirror finish. There seems to be two spots on the blade as well that I need to clean up a bit. Check out these pics for what I mean:
There seems to be some very minor pitting on the point of the spine, and a small tarnish mark near the heal. Can you guys give me advice on what types of grit and compound I can use to remove this and bring it to a 100% perfect mirrored finish??Tyroneology likes this.
