    Default Hello, from "The Ville"

First off, let me get this out of the way... I already belong to a few forums, which stringently stress doing your own research before starting a thread that has been answered MULTIPLE times. Also, I have been lurking for awhile and have read just about every sticky, and answering most of my own questions. So, I'm very familiar with the "search bar".

With that being said, I'm glad to be here and hope I can contribute, in time. I have always had a strong interest in "straights". Actually, I have a love and reverance for the "old ways", no matter what they are. I finally decided to make the jump. I realise I'm still a way off from my first shave, but that's okay. I still have some more research, before I feel comfortable, and a few more accesories to acquire.

A little about myself... I'm 35, and a new father of a baby girl. I work shipping and receiving for a company that automates valves, and supplies industrial pipe fittings. Some of our customers include the big boys of Bourbon distillation. I enjoy off-roading, white-water kayaking, camping, and just about anything else outdoors. Overall, I'm really glad I found this site, as it gave me the push to pursue. Not much else to say, at the moment.

Welcome to SRP! Glad you took the plunge and joined up. Have you bought a razor yet? If not I would recomend looking in the Main Index - Straight Razor Place Classifieds. You can get s shave ready straight from a trusted SRP member at a great price. It's a good way to start off before you start hunting antique stores, ebay, etc...

Thanks for the welcome. Yes... I have bought two razors, already. My first was an H. Boker, in very nice shape. Hallmark puts it between 1924 and '35. EBay add says its shave ready, but I still plan on sending it out, to someone reputable, for a honing. One side off the scales is a tiny bit warped, but the blade centers nicely. The other is a Croghan Cutlery that I bought because I liked the design on the blade. It need a lot of work. Blade polish, honing, and a repinning. I couldnt beat the price. $15.00 shipped. My Boker was $25 shipped. I actually used this forum as research, before I bought the Boker. Everyone fights over the W&B's, so decent blades can be found cheap. I'll get some pics up later.

Welcome to SRP, and to straight razor shaving. I enjoy the challenge and the "ritual" of it. Just allow enough time for the shave and don't let yourself get rushed and hurry to finish. I learned the hard way with getting cut. If I don't have the time, well, I don't shave!

As promised, pics of my two eBay pick-ups... Sorry, its just the eBay pics. The method for adding attachments is a little wonky, compared to what I'm used to. The Boker(pic with case) looks like it has a small knick in the blade, but it doesn't. The Croghan, like I said, I only picked up because of the etching on the blade, and the scales looked different. Ill clean it up, but it'll probablly be just a display piece.
