    Default First Good one!!! Almost.

Well Just completed My second shave with the new toy from my Gf. Almost perfect! Got myself right under my nose.(and no not with the fools pass) just touched it to the skin a lil too hard. I got exited from the fact that I had not nicked myself yet . Until then that is. I still have lots to learn and nerves to gain. It was weird, im right handed and it almost felt more comfortable with my left. Still trying to learn all the different ways to hold my hand and wrist. The main thing im trying to learn is the best and safest way to go against the grain. Im real happy with the fact that I got a near perfect shave with this new straight. I will try in a couple days to find out is I can shave as well as I did tonight. not BBS but still DFS. Have a great night Gents!

Good for you. The thing is, don't get distracted, it will ouch you! Move the blade away until you can focus back to your task. My wife always want to ask me a question when I am shaving.

I found that early on that I was "better" with my left (weaker) hand. I had a tendency to want to apply too much pressure with my right. For under the nose, I actually touch the spine against my nose before landing the blade on the lip. I've found this prevents those landing cuts.

Glad you had a decent shave and sorry you cut yourself. I'm into this about 18 months and can confirm that I too was "gentler" with the razor in my off hand than I was with my dominant hand. I also nicked myself the same way....different area, but same "oh boy, I'm home free" feeling, then oops.

As for ATG, you may never need to do it. Lots of us do 2 or 2 1/2 passes of varying directions in various areas of our faces and shave well without ever going directly ATG. For me, that's a close enough shave (actually BBS-) without struggling ATG.

I'm with Harold. ATG is probably not needed.

My constant reminder to users: Never take your eyes off that blade, Bad things will happen.

Your new hobby will only get better as you master the art.

Congrats on your shave. To bad about the nick on the upper li[, but the straights have a way of reminding us to pay attention. Sounds like you are well on your way!

Congrats on the good shave. While things vary from person to person, I find that with a well honed razor, a light touch and proper technique mean I don't need an ATG pass.

Stick with it. You'll figure it out.
