Hello from Arizona

Greeting all,

Total beginner here on straight razors, I have been wet shaving for sometime now so this will be a whole new experience.

I am happy that the outlay for this new endeavor is not as steep as when I began with a safety razor; though I feel long term this one could end up costing a lot more.

I have ordered the Boker "King Cutter" razor as my beginning blade as well as a straight razor design modular paddle for my strop.

Now to watch a whole lot of videos and do even more reading before the first shave.

Read Lynn's sticky post "Anticipation". It is a real good method to begin with easy baby steps. I did my side burns, and finished with a DE. Next, I began including the neck. Now (soon I hope) I'll try the chin. These guy's are great about giving good advice!

Thanks Jim, that is the plan here also..at least at first my DE89 will carry the heavy load while the Boker gets settled in.

My biggest concern is the stropping and eventual honing. The shave side I will/can be very patient just nervous about the day when I will need to use a stone.

It was the use of stones that first brought me to this site. I would be happy to help when that time comes but that should be a while out since you went with SRD. as for stropping the paddle should help. i never used one but i started with my strop on the counter and took it very slow. watch LOTS of videos and maybe start with a butter or blunt table knife to get the feel.

Your on the right path stropping is key honing isn't important nor will it be if you only have 1-2 razors , cheaper to have someone do it for you ,, concentrate on learning to shave an strop. Good luck. Tc
