Thanked: 4Thanks for the welcome everyone.
Before I decided to make my move from Shavette to Straight I checked out hones, stones, strops and methods. I even viewed some of the resources here and practiced with a pen across a bit of string to simulate a strop and used the blunt edge of a standard table knife across a rectangular box to try and give myself a feel for how it might be. Considering both of my razors that I've worked with are working to some degree and I feel comfortable working with them, I think it has stood me in good stead. The real thing feels different but at least I had an idea before biting into pieces of history
Been using his videos. It was arm hair popping all along the blade but not a nice face shave (Sunday morning) so I've re-worked it on the 8k and the 12k, then leather stropped it on Monday night and awaiting a few days bristle to give it a fair crack of the whip.
It's pretty cool setting up my area on a table, propping my Note 3 phone on it's stand and watching Gssixgun on Youtube with one earphone in my ear, paying attention to every piece of advice going and the other ear listening out for the noises made on the hone. Though it concerns me that I completely missed one minor detail the first time I did itLast edited by Elcs; 12-16-2014 at 07:41 PM.
