earcutter, what brand of baby butt paste were you using? Sounds like a handy product to have around the bathroom for those off days.

Ha ha! You would have to call me out on that . I couldn't remember what the stuff was called if you paid me (kids are 5 now).

Anyway, I ran upstairs to have a quick look. All we have left is this stuff:

You can buy this in the USA

I had to ask my wife if this was the stuff, as I was sure what I used was in a tin. She stated it probably was, as we used something else before the A+D that we got in Canada. Its called Penaten:

She said we tried a few things but settled on the A+D because we could buy it Stateside. We got the Penaten in Canada.

All said and done, I am sure they are all the same. It's not something you want to use on a regular basis, but I got to tell you Leatherstockiings, that day I thought my face was going to scar - it really helped! I sure hope this will help someone as much as it did me.

    Thanks for asking!

Hi and welcome. The guys have covered all the most likely factors now you just need to figure out what works for you. Good luck and have been there with the butt cream and it really does help.

Thanks for the warm welcome and great advice, everyone! I learned a few more lessons here, thanks to your feedback:

    - Stretching the skin is crucial to getting a close, comfortable shave. I was definitely struggling with this.
    - Less (pressure) is more.
    - Blades can easily be dulled with poor stropping, or a damaged strop.
    - Alternate razors to allow one blade to recover (not entirely sure how this works).
    - Keep shave cream from drying on the face. I struggled with this. My proraso cream was drying super quick. Also might have been from my poor face lathering, by hand. This leads to the next lesson...
    - Buy a shave brush!
    - Baby butt paste (lol) and Vitamin E can help heal a beat up face. I used Witch Hazel, and when that didn't help, I sprayed some Apple Cider Vinegar. It burned like crazy for a minute, but the redness and irritation nearly stopped.

My face is still a little sore, so I will give it a rest for a few days, at least until I fix or replace the leather pad on the SRD modular paddle I butchered.

BTW: I am attaching some shots of the leather. Any idea if this is fixable?

I am not sure, but as you have nothing to loose, why not try sanding out any sticky up bits, it will probably be ok.
I am not sure about resting razors, personally I think it is nonsense, but there are enough threads here about the topic to not need to rehash it.

I have sanded my fair share Ed - it does work. Moreover, the above slices aren't really that bad.

Obviously, you are going to want to use your finest sandpaper.

Yes I have sanded mine as well. In addition to really fine sandpaper, don't forget to remove any grit on your strop prior to stropping.
