Thanked: 0Newcomer to the straight edge shaving community!
Hello everybody! My name is Cameron! I received from from father this Christmas a very special-to-me straight edge razor and I can't wait to get started with using it. My wife is shared to death I'll kill myself with it, but I can't even begin to describe by anticipation.
I was soooo eager to use it, I did a *very* small amount of shaving with it one morning, and when I was drying it I happens to knick the blade on my bathroom sink :/ so I have a small imperfection at the top of my blade already. Along other things, fixing this is something I'd like to discuss with this fine community.
I look forward to participating in these forums!

Welcome Camtron1987. Start you journey with SRP by contacting via a PM one of the WA Mentors. They can help you solve the dinged razor problem. Honing is not an easily acquired skill. Concentrating on shave prep and shaving skills first will do you more good in the long run.
It would help you to, at least, read the FAQ in the Library section. Below are two WA Mentors,
cudarunner (Walla Walla)
deighaingeal (Yakima/Central Washington)"The sharpening stones from time to time provide officers with gasoline."

Thanked: 3795Wecome to SRP!
What brand is the razor? Well meaning relatives often buy Razor Shaped Objects that look right but won't actually shave properly
Please be sure to read the red Sticky threads at the top of the Beginner's section.

One of the better honers on this forum is Gssixgun (Glen) who is in Sandpoint Idaho, which may be closer than some of the others by mail. The others are great, but he is near, if not at, the top of the heap. His website is: http://www.gemstarcustoms.com
Just call me Harold

Thanked: 0I appreciate the warm welcome and I will be sure to get in contact with the gentlemen you recommended. I do believe Standpoint is a little closer that Yakima or Walla Walla, and it's definitely a more pleasant drive if I decide is rather drive than mail.
Is that all that it will take to fix my blade back in working condition, a professional honing? I'm the period recipient of a Dovo blade with a beautiful tortoise handle. I was told it is in shave-ready condition when it was purchased but from what I've read here that isn't always the case. I was also told that I've got one professional servicing with it, too, once the blade dulls a bit.
I apologize if this isn't the place to be discussing this, if there's a more proper forum then I would most definitely appreciate a point in the right direction!

Hi and welcome. Dovo is a good brand if razor so no need for worry there. If sold with a free honing as well it likely was shave ready. Might be a idea to use the free hone now to make sure that you start out right. Who was the free honing from. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed
