Hello from Baltimore
Hi Folks,
I've been shaving mostly with the same Gillette double edged safety razor since I started shaving thirty odd years ago, but recently I got a Merkur 34C, which led me to notice this whole retro shaving thing that seems to be happening. I didn't even know I was ahead of the times!
This holiday I was back home and sorting through some of my late father's stuff and came across three straight razors which I believe were my grandfather's. So, now I want to learn the fine art of real shaving, instead of face-scraping. To learn, I've bought a nice vintage Boker, shave-ready, from our colleague Cuda. Eventually I will see about refurbing Grandpa's blades and using them once again.
Great site, and I look forward to learning a lot from y'all.

Thanked: 55Welcome. Ask any questions necessary, everyone here very helpful and many knowledgeable. Not me yet. All the best.

Welcome to SRP! If you have been using soap and a brush for your DE them you are ahead of the game as far as most people new to straight razors. Let us know how it goes
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

Haha, I'm ashamed to say in this company, but I've just been using the old red-can Barbasol this whole time. (I have a bottle of Lucky Tiger cream that I use once in a great while too- it's probably five years old!) When i was a kid the Barbasol can used to be right next to Dad's Luckies on the bathroom counter every morning. It worked for him, so I never thought to do differently.
I've ordered some Ogallala soap and a brush so I'll be practicing with that and my Merkur before I move on to the straight razor.
