Thanked: 1New member checking in
Thought I would say hello to the community. I'm a member of another online shaving forum and love it. I started getting into straight shaving after about 8 months of DE and I didn't just dabble, my first blades were some tore up rusted razors that I figured if I was gonna do it, I may as well start from the ground up. As much as I love the other forum, I found that whenever I needed help on honing, scale making or finishing or anything to do with cleaning up blades, SRP had a little more info. I've learned a lot from Lynn, Glen and other members and thought I may as well join instead of lurking. So here's to continuing this great hobby and getting to know everyone a little bit better.Respectfully,Kyro

Needless to say, our Library Wiki has a great depth of information to be mined (and still growing). Plus the variety of threads and topics within the forum are info heavy and, they, too, are growing. I consider SRP an active, organic group of dedicated wet shavers.

Thanked: 1Thanks for the warm welcomes! I have noticed how much info there is here and much of it has significantly fixed my honing mistakes. The biggest one I've fixed is the "not moving to the next grit until you're DONE at this one," and one I just kind of figured out that you don't have to be super gentle when it comes to honing. You gotta try different things and not everything works for every razor. I'm in the Army and have to shave every day, I hated shaving until I discovered how much of a fun hobby it can be and how vast the history of it all is.

You may want to chat with MajorEthonic. He also army and came as a shavette user and switched to straights.

Thanked: 1I actually started with a shavette, then picked up a muhle r89 to make things a little quicker in the morning. I posted elsewhere for some help on choosing my first straight and someone offered a PIF of a razor he would restore for me. It actually never came and I took at it myself. Then I realized I had a knack for it. I've restored three so far and I'm working on my first Sheffield wedge right now. The wedge is being glued right now and I'm going to start tung oil grain filling and shellac-ing for the rest of the weekend. Probably gone it tomorrow night if all goes well.

Thanked: 1I guess I may as well ask. I'm currently active duty and noticed there was a veteran tab under some members names. Where can I head to to check out the application process for that?
