Hey all thanks for the warm welcome and glad to hear from the fellow buckeyes! Engine 46, Shon from Iron Town Razor Works sent me a notice that "your razor has been carefully honed using a progression of high quality wet stones. The final polishing was done on a super fine grit naturally quarried stone, finished with a few laps on a chromium oxide paddle, and then a horsehide leather strop. It has been sterilized and lightly coated with oil to protect the edge from oxidation during shipment...all you need to do to enjoy a great shave is gently wipe away the oil and shave with it." I plan on taking it to the strop I just ordered from straight razor designs as per the tutorial on the forum and going from there. Hopefully that should be ok? I did pick up a new soap and aftershave and still plan on using my old boar brush. Plan on just doing from side burn to a few inches down and done on day one and go from there. Again thanks for the warm welcome!!!!! Engine 46 do you happen to be a fireman as well? I've been on Troy for about 4 years and 4 years in Fostoria before that...if so greetings from local #1638.

One more Ohioan saying hello to another. Welcome to one of the best shaving resources. I'm not all that far from Troy. From Washington Court House. I'm all about an Ohio group.

might want to wait on that first stropping, if it's already been expertly stropped, just to see what a shave ready blade feels like. after the first try or two(since you're only doing a little at a time, that is if you can really control the temptation to go all the way) then strop away. it's easy for a noob to damage the edge from inexperience.JMHO

Hey tintin thanks for the info. Did just under my right ear to the jaw this morning, just one stroke without messing with it. I can definitely see what you mean "seeing what shave ready feels like". My first thoughts were 1) is it really shaving??? Without a doubt. 2) is it a close shave? For a single stroke with the grain...it's closer than any disposable I've ever used. I will be looking into stopping and razor care more as well as I usually tend to be that "noob". Thanks again!
