    Default SRP guy from Serbia

Hi all! My name is Pepsis (look it up for what it means ), and i com from Serbia. Now in Serbian, Croatian, Bosniac, and in few more regions of South East Europe, SRP means a tool for reaping wheat, corn and grass. You'll recognize it when you see it! Here's link in English to wikipedia about it: Sickle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Most traditional shape in these parts is seen on the picture where it lies on grass.

So, besides blades in general, and especially Straights, the name of forum took my attention.

About straights, i have recently become interested (well, couple of years actually) in them since for my kind of beard these single use, triple or five bladed BICs, Willkinsons, and what nots just don't cut it any more. I don't have enough money to go and buy at once all that one needs for quality straight shave, BUT i managed to get one called WAPIENICA! It was secondhand. Like, i just wanted to try and see if i could shave with one, and not cut my throat. And guess what! I can. My hands don't shake, and it does the trick. Like everything this also has the other side. That little straight did not turn out to be of some quality. I had taken it to the pro to sharpen it, and it didn't hold the edge very well. It also turned out that so called professional ruined the edge. It was wobbly! So i had to go online, and learn some skills. Now, don't think down on me. I study mechanical engineering, and one of the things i know best are materials. Theoretically of course. This was my DIY practice time. It turned out that i am very skillful, since i managed to restore that blade with nothing more than few waterproof sandpapers. I managed to fine tune it with some new and some worn out 2500 grit. And strop it on a piece of cow leather belt i had lying around. IT CUTS! BUT, another but, all this diminished the blade quite a lot.

recently i ended up meeting a guy who is at early stages of hand forging some knives. So he convinced me to try with some bearing steel and make my own straight. that idea stick on me, and this is why ended up here. I just have to mention, that i don't own any kind of forge, nor any kind of forging tools. No belt and no regular kind of grinders, but (another one ) i am determined in this. And Goddamn it (sorry for that) i just had to start somewhere. Since i am not of patient ones here looks like a good place to show what i have done. So there will be some pics, right away!

Here i will say, that i am aware of all my mistakes, but please take it easy!

That is in the shortest. All have a nice day(s)! I'm glad for finding this forum.

This is all done in experimenting purposes only! Steel is bad, out of old plough... it is worthless and useless. And since i have no forge i can't try and quench it to see for real.

Welcome to the forum. There are a lot of guys here that are very good at making straight razors, I'm sure you will be able to learn a lot. Read and ask questions and you will find the answers you seek.

    Dobrodošao Pepsis!
Last year I donated some razors to a small but growing straight razor community, just to have it growing
