Default Maxi from the U.S. Virgin Islands

    Greetings,
    I'm a newb and bought a
    Dovo 6/8
    Naniwa stones:
    lapping, 3k/8k and 12k
    SRD paddle strop.

My only issue involves the .5 mic diamond spray.
I sprayed it on one of the felts that came with it and let it dry till morning.
It seems to have gotten bumpy?
I tried 7-10 strokes and it seem to screw up my edge. I then reset bevel and did pyramid and it shaved ok but not BBS.

    Welcome to SRP!
It looks like you sprayed too much spray onto the strop. Take a flat piece of non rusted metal (kitchen knife, pocket knife, etc.) and run it over the strop about 50 times to smooth it out. If the strop isn't smooth, the edge won't be smooth. Also, be careful with the number of lamps you take with your razor on a diamond pasted strop, more than about 7 travels and the blade edge gets chippy and harsh.

Hi and welcome. Does look like too much moisture on the felt. Have heard of people ironing it flat just make sure you use something between the felt and iron to stop contamination. Maybe a clean piece of rag or old towel.

Hi & welcome to SRP. It looks like you have got a head start on things which is great. You might try to fix your damaged felt but if it doesn't work use one of your other ones & try some diamond paste or some chromium oxide paste which work well. Here is the page you need to go to for information about pastes & sprays:

What hone(s), paste(s), or spray(s) do I need? - Straight Razor Place Library

Also you can go to this page to learn about Glen's (gssixgun) youtube videos on honing with different stones & he is very informative on it & has been doing it a very long time:

    https://www.youtube.com/user/gssixgun/videos

These pages are what you really need to check out. I have learned a lot from these pages as well & my honing has become a lot better. Also when you shave, make sure you are stretching the skin on your face to shave & I find myself even making faces to tighten up my skin to get a good shave. Here is one of Lynn's video's on shaving with a straight razor:

Also when using your straight, you want to try to keep the water from getting near the pivot pin but sometimes it is hard to avoid so I will use compressed air like the canned air you buy for your computer or if you have an air compressor like I do in my garage, you can blow all that excess water out of there & use a lube like Tuf-Glide & lube the pivot pin with only a drop or two. This will keep your pivot from rusting where water can accumulate. There are also some other lubes out there like Eazox lube which also works well. You might want to get a second straight just in case you need to send your razor out to be honed or if something happens to your straight & you need a spare to shave with. Stropping is very important so make sure you can strop your razor before & after each shave. Lynn's dvd is a good thing to have because he shows how to hone, strop, shave & a little on restoration. He also shows his collection which is really nice. You can also see a lot of video's in the Library. Good luck & if you have any questions please ask on the forum or pm me.
    Good luck!

    Maxi,

Welcome to the forum. Nice setup you have, congrats.

On spraying the wool, here's a video by Lynn showing how much to use. I also wrinkled one and was never able to correct it. Had to replace it.

    and again....Welcome!!

    Best Regards,

    Howard
