Thanked: 1New member from Philly
I stumbled across this site while looking for a less wasteful method to shave. I usually used cartridges but decided they were very expensive and wasteful. Last year I got an electric and have hated it for most of the past year. So I have decided to give straight razor shaving a try. I have read quite a bit of the library here and much of the forums. I ordered a blade from ebay just to mess with making scales and practice honing with. Turns out that the blade, while being a little beat up and modified from its original form, is a decent piece of steel. I'll do a separate post on this. Before it arrived I ordered two more razors one of which is supposedly shave ready. That way I can get straight into shaving while I play with the others. Currently I am waiting on my brush and soap to try out my first shave. I look forward to my first shave and hopefully many more to come.
Thanks,
Dave

Thanked: 1I do intend to wait for the shave ready razor to arrive before I progress to a full shave. I did post in the workshop section about the scales I put on the blade I got. I honed it and did just the smallest of shave test on my sideburn with liquid hand soap. It was effortless and smooth. However, I'm waiting for proper shaving supplies, soap, brush etc. before going further. I will be using the shave ready razor first. Hopefully the seller sends it in true shave ready condition.

Thanked: 4828Welcome. If the razor is suppose to be shave ready do not strop it before your first shave. Speaking of which that is the only piece of gear you have not mentioned. Hopefully you either have one or have one inbound. There is a lot to learn, however it is not complicated, but it does require some repetition to get it right. The rewards are awesome.
