Default Hello from sunny So. Cal.

I just received my first razor from SRD last Monday, a Dovo Best Quality 6/8. I've already performed a few successful strokes from the sideburn down and I'm planning another attempt tomorrow.

One of the problems I've encountered so far is that I need to find the correct mirror angle for certain grips. I was having a problem seeing the heel of the blade when using the right hand on the right side of my face because my hand blocks my vision. I'm pretty sure you want to see ALL of the blade at all times, so I've been practicing different grips. We'll see how it goes.

Welcome from southern California. You'll get there with the angles/views, etc. Just takes practice. I would also recommend trying to learn to use your left hand for the left side if you're not doing that already. But it a personal choice...

Welcome from another newbie who is also having some issues with mirrors and blind spots. I'm sure will both get it with more practice and experience.

Welcome. You will know when you have the grip right because it will be comfortable, easy to control and shave effectively. It varies a little from person to person. As far as the vision goes it is best to be able to see but I don't see all of all of my strokes. Sometimes there are little pieces of the shave that you learn to trust the feel, that however comes with time and practice.

+1 on what Rezdog said. I have rather large hands and can't see the blade on my face in a number of areas, but after a while developed quite a feel for where the blade is,especially relative to things like ears

On the more difficult areas like the chin and neck, I can see well. Near my sideburns where I have limited vision, I judge the angle by the single of the scales, and by twisting my head and neck around, I can get enough of a view to be safe.
    Just call me Harold

Welcome to the forum. As many have already replied, you will learn to go more by feel as you gain more experience. I normally shave without my glasses or contacts and started out leaning way in to the mirror trying to see the blade against my skin. As I became more confident I learned to go more by feel than sight and quit leaning in to the mirror. Still a long ways off from shaving in the dark though. Just keep at it, take your time and enjoy the ride. And if you could be so kind to send a little of that sunshine to the east, I have had enough of this cold wet winter weather.

Hi & welcome to SRP. Congrats on the new Dovo too. I hope you got the strop to go with it. I'm sure by now if you don't have these yet you will need them but a good brush, soap & mug or scuttle. Here's Lynn's youtube video on shaving:

Also here's all his youtube video's & the previous one is in it but I thought I would show it separately so it would be easier for you:

Her's a wealth of information as you might know so check it out & if you need anything just ask on the forum or you can also pm me. If you need to look for something you can use the advanced search option.
Good luck & great to have you here!
