Welcome. I especially enjoyed your analogy or parallel.
What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one

Thanked: 1Thanks to all for the fine welcoming!! I really appreciate the resources here at SRP. Now I don't dare list anything on ebay without consulting the database and threads. Especially to the founder for my much better understanding of proper beveling, honing techniques, pyramid procedures and stones. If I were not a stubborn sort, I would plug in a Norelco instead of doing it myself. So most of my understanding has come after years of trial and error. Ironic that now 'reading the book' it finally comes together. I like being able to represent an offering as ready to shave.
I started collecting SR's as an interesting and fairly low cost hobby, reflecting centuries of art, history and technology. Bonds may have been a better investment, but I enjoy keeping history alive by restoring, maintaining and sharing their magic. In my listings I attempt to frankly display all aspects of the item. My only concern about ebay e.g. is that the market does not seem to sustain the values that I would think as a serious collector. Like Antiques Roadshow meets Pawn Stars!!
