Thanks so much! Though to be clear I haven't even touched a straight razor yet; I'm waiting for my order from Larry at Whipped Dog to arrive. I've been DE shaving since November, though, and enjoying it quite a bit. I suppose the temptation to try a straight was inevitable!

I'm looking forward to exploring all the resources here.

Welcome to the forum and the brotherhood.

There is much to learn/master - but the fact that you have been wet shaving and making lather (and doing beard prep) is going to help you a great deal.
When you are learning the shave takes longer, and the lather tends to dry - so refresh as needed.

And of course we feel it is worth the time and effort to master.

    Smooth shaving...

    Welcome onethinline ,
I don't have anything more to add that hasn't already been said. 2 razors before you have even shaved...make sure to start saving for shaving addiction.

Welcome to the deep end! We all end up there eventually -- it's good that you got a head start.

By the way, I have nothing but good things to say about Larry at Whipped Dog. I ordered a flawed sight unseen from him a while back and all it needed was a good cleaning to turn it into a nice little shaver. It was perfectly shave-ready and is still my go-to travel razor.

Thanks again everyone for the warm (and already helpful) welcome. Looks like my Whipped Dog sight unseen should arrive on Monday. I'm already thinking about SR techniques when I use my DE in the morning, so my brain is processing the info I've been taking in. Of course, getting the muscles involved with the real thing is when the learning will really begin. I'm looking forward to it.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Not sure if anyone answered your question on lather yet so thought I would throw in my two cents. From your description sounds like you build a lather similar to me, start out on the dry side and add water until you get the consistency you want. When you start with the straight you may want to work in a little more water than what you normally do. I find that there is a fine line between just right and too wet/thin. All trial and error and you will find what works best for you in time.
