Wink my wife is gonna kill me!

    Hi everyone, from Akron Ohio
I've been a str8 shaver since 1988 at the age of 17 I'm now 47. Started with a old ugly rusted and pitted Torrey razor that cleaned up enough that I could use. A combo stone of unknown grit and a old leather belt that I grew out of. Somehow I managed to shave with this, believe or not, up till January of this year2015. In December of 2014 I wanted to buy a new shiny razor. So I found this place called Imperial shave in Medina Ohio just a half hr. Drive from home. Met Don and his son. Bought a Dovo best quality, srd latigo strop and srd soap and a 8000 Nani. with holder. Shaving is a whole new ballgame. I wanted to pump Don for info but it was quite busy. He said to check this site that anything I wanted to know was here. He was right. Now I'm in too deep. With all the info you guys have given to me I've now restored my Torrey, made new scales from teak. And now running around to antique stores buying str8s and building a collection. Found 3 my first try in pretty good condition no sanding, grinding. Just wash and a rub with flitz. Almost like new. And shave better than the Dovo (back to the hone). The 3 razors are a Oxford, Tuckmar and clauss which I only paid $35 bucks for all. What a find, they are beautiful, and shaved with the Clauss this morning. Best shaver yet. So with this thank you all. Yeah my wife is gonna kill me if she finds my collection/ hobby is now growing. But I need more, more and more.

Nice. I bet she does not get mad. Do like I did and introduce her to all the fine shaving soaps, balms, AS etc. Then slide her into a SR for her legs. I did it and she is now more hooked than I am. My wife just said today that she could never go back to a cart or DE. Welcome aboard from Idaho ) formerly Indiana very close to Ohio, have friends in Akron)

I treated my better half to a DE and super badger brush set from Edwin Jagger and some DR Harris Rose Cream. She uses them on her legs and raves about the results. That put me in good books so she now takes an interest in my straights.

welcome. I am glad you are happy collecting and restoring. There are quite a few here that have made this into a large hobby and not just shaving.

welcome and i think you will be alright !!..lol

o great more local antique store competition ...lol

    PS,
the bigger antique store on Market St usually has a bunch of straight razors but most are gonna be restores as the owners son started straight shaving a few years ago so now when anything newer or nice looking comes in she sets it aside until he decides if he wants it or not ..lol ...

Welcome, I found this site doing some research into straight razor shaving about three weeks ago. Have only been SR shaving for two weeks and already have had three orders from SRD.

If I lived as close to the store as you, I'd be broke by now.

My wife has not yet discovered the extent of my new addiction.

    Enjoy, great knowledgeable people here.

    Just hope it's only RAD.
