Thanked: 5Hello from Northern Ontario
Great place to find info for an older new member.
New to the straight razor shave and how to hone and make shave ready since buying a razor that was made in China and what a lesson need I say more?
Blade had bevels that where different on each side and worked for more than a few hours trying to make shave ready . Problem solved when I found a post here on using a magic marker to check your blade bevel and it made the lights come on and showed that someone didn't know how to bevel at the factory since the razor was brand new. Any how now I'm hooked on make it shave ready.
Should have paid more attention to my grandfather who was a Sargent Major in the Canadian Black Watch WW1, shaved only with the straight razor and raised me by himself since I was 7 I'm now 70 ha not waiting any more. Time to be sharp.
Have a great 2015 everyone.

Thanked: 4828Welcome. I would start looking for a nice vintage razor that is already shave ready. It is a great short cut and will save you a ton of frustration. Check the classifieds.

Hello and welcome to SRP!
Yeah, as RezDog suggested, get yourself a properly honed razor to enjoy while you bang your head against the wall with that Chinese razor.S.L.A.M.,.......SHAVE LIKE A MAN!!!

Hi and welcome to SRP
Some excellent advice above. Getting a truly shave-ready blade to compare your honing efforts to can be a great help. You'll read plenty of posts attacking the Chinese razors here on SRP, so Raol's point about head banging isn't without foundation. I've never owned or tried to hone one and so can't speak from personal experience, but it appears inconsistency lies at the heart of many frustrations with Chinese razors. Some are OK. Many are not.
In addition to the SRD and classified suggestions should you decide to get a second blade, you might also want to check out Classic Edge. They are located in Ontario, dealing with them will avoid any cross-border issues (extra shipping, weak dollar at the moment, etc).
Good luck!
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.
