Thread: Dovo model # 98

New Member. I ordered A couple of day's ago a new Dovo Model # 98 from Royal Shave. com, after a couple of weeks of heavy research on straight razors. In been using a DE Razor for just over a year and have enjoyed it. I always new I was going to move to a straight eventually. I am looking forward to getting my new Dovo razor that should be delivered today. I may have over spent for my first razor though, at $ 275. I look forward to getting to know you all and Hope for patience with my future silly questions

Royal shave has good prices but I am not sure straights are shipped shave ready.

They are said to be shave ready... I guess we'll see. I have orderd a strope of course and I have also ordered honing supplies. The big question though is wheather the razor is ready or not. AM I READY.... A little nervous.

Well if its not shave ready someone here can always help out with that.

First thing to remember with a straight is that you will cut yourself. SO that being said don't trouble yourself with worrying about accidentally slicing yourself. The less you worry about it the less it will happen. Now I am not saying be careless and wave your straight all willy nilly. I am saying don't overthink it, trying so hard to not cut yourself. What I suggest is that you have the razor already in motion before it contacts your skin and gently touch down and don't stop the motion of the blade until the razor is off your skin. Kinda like an airplane doing a touch and go only the airplane is a razor and the landing strip is your face.

Basically its not rocket science, its shaving, and millions of people have been doing it for hundreds of years. Also make sure you have a good strop. You use a strop as often as the straight razor so if you know theres a big difference between a quality razor like a dovo and a low quality razor like a Gold Dollar or the worse ones out there then know that there is a difference between a quality strop and a cheapo strop of ebay.

Just a quick tip, make sure and shave with it as it arrives. Don't try stropping it before your first shave. A lot of people (me included) have made the mistake of stropping it first, rolling the edge, getting a bad shave and thinking it didn't come shave ready.
