    Default Newbie!

Hello all! I have been researching straight razors for a couple months, and I am excited to be ordering a razor set from Straight Razor Designs.

I am not sure if I am going to order a Boker King Cutter 5/8 or Dovo Best Quality 5/8. Thoughts or opinions on either one?

Also I am not sure about strops in the set. I was thinking about upgrading to a premium 3" strop, but there are different ones listed, so I am not sure what the difference is.

More about me, I am in Minnesota and would look forward to meeting some people here that have experience for guidance.

    Thanks,

    Travis M

Both of those razors would be a great start...just make sure you buy a truly shave ready from one of the many reputable vendors recommended here. I have used Straight Razor Designs with great success. A good strop is a must but keep in mind you will most likely damage your first strop so don't get attached or break the bank to bad. Also the SRD strops are made so you can modularly replace the straps....pretty handy when you tear one up.

Welcome and hang around....the members here are EXCEPTIONAL and will help you through your new adventure!

P.S.----three inch premium strop is really nice...it is what I learned on.
    Go find an adventure.....

    Welcome to the SRP Forum!

I am partial to the Boker, although I don't own either one. I am sure that either would serve you well.

If these razors are coming from SRD then they will be shave ready when you get them. The hone every razor they sell to a shave ready condition or they want send it. Either razor will be good. Both are good brands. as far as the strop goes I prefer the 3 inch strop and which one would be what each person would want. some have a heavy draw and others don't. You can talk to the folks there at SRD and ask them. Since you are beginning I would suggest a medium draw strop. Oh and welcome to the world of straights. Since your knew at straights I also would suggest to watch all the shaving videos you can. there's lots of info there and reading and talking about shaving with a straight is good seeing it done is better. there are some good demos on youtube. take care and enjoy.

Welcome. Either razor will do, they are both good quality and will come shave ready. Do Not strop before your first shave. As far as your strop choices go I would not get the nylon as the second material I would go with the premium material. I would also get the 3" strop.

Welcome! I'm also new to straight razors and just had my first shave today with a Böker King Cutter and I'm loving it.

The Boker, the Dovo, or an Aust from SRD are all great razors. Go with whatever one you think looks the best. You can always buy another one later.

For strops I'd go with a 3" wide Premium 1 or Premium 2. They both have a medium draw and to me the only difference is the color of the strops.

If you haven't done so already, check out the beginner's section in the Library and ask us any questions that you may have along the way.
