This is directly from his website, "I also sharpen straight razors. Do to the time and exacting nature of this I charge $25 per razor. I only use my Japanese Water Stones, up to 12,000 grit and Russian leather strop."
Should I still slap him?

I spoke with him yesterday, he has a thriving custom made knife business, and he does indeed use a str8! I will get in touch with some of the Texas people suggested on this thread, but to get started I thought I should go this way.
Russell said he uses a Russian Bison Strop, was pretty excited that I was getting started, and with the razor I brought to be honed!

The admonition to avoid sharpeners who don't use straights is simply to avoid those who don't understand them. Clearly this guy does not fall into that category.
