No power tools, no slap.

However, I'd still ask if he shaves with them. There are plenty of Texas members here that might be more helpful for you and could teach you how to do it yourself.

I spoke with him yesterday, he has a thriving custom made knife business, and he does indeed use a str8! I will get in touch with some of the Texas people suggested on this thread, but to get started I thought I should go this way.

Russell said he uses a Russian Bison Strop, was pretty excited that I was getting started, and with the razor I brought to be honed!

The admonition to avoid sharpeners who don't use straights is simply to avoid those who don't understand them. Clearly this guy does not fall into that category.

I would be lothe to throw slaps around in a shop full of sharp objects
