Thread: Newbie from New Jersy

Good day all

Im looking into learning straight razor shaving and have stumbled across this site a few times doing my research so I decided to become a member. I know there are quite a few routes to take so where is one to start who's been wet shaving for quite a few years with oils and creams and badger brushes and has been using a DE razor? I look forward to learning from everyone!

Welcome to SRP. Sounds like you're already pretty familiar with wet shaving. That'll be a big help as far as prep and angles and what not. For starter do lots of reading here on SRP and watch some YouTube videos to learn everything you can. It's often recommended that your first razor should be a 5/8 or 6/8 round point. There are a few known and trusted brands of newer razors and tons of great vintage brands. You want something that's shave ready (properly honed). Lots of deals on shave ready vintage stuff on the SRP classifieds. You'll also need a strop. It doesn't need to be too fancy.

Strops come up in the Classifieds a little less often but can be found and you can always try one of the Advertising Vendors on SRP for New.
