Default Hello from the Windy City!

Got into DE shaving about 2 months ago and was out hitting antique shops last weekend and picked up a nice Boker Red Injun No 101. A little spine wear but nice blade and minor crack in back scale. So will be searching for a replacement which looks like it will be hard to find!
Once cleaned and repaired will send out for professional honing. Been reading forums for a couple of days and there is a lot of knowledge and help here. Glad to be aboard and a Proud Boker owner!!!

Thanks Obie, a very generous offer indeed! The learning curve seems pretty steep with straights and I have much to learn so there will be questions, I'm sure. Have been loving the heck out of wet shaving and thought it would be cool to drop back 100 years and do it right!!

Picked up a Boker mainly because I have been collecting pocket knives for years and I know they have been producing quality blades for a long time so figured I can't go wrong with Boker! I look forward to learning everything required to get a good straight shave.

Yes, there is much to learn, and you do have have a long learning curve. It's all worth it.

It's a three and a half hour drive, but there is going to be a meet-up in Tomah WI this next Saturday. If you can make it, this would be a great opportunity for you to get a jump start on EVERYTHING! Learning in person is much more helpful than all this newfangled interweb stuff!

Thanks for the invite Utopian but the wife and I have business going on the next two weekends. It would be awesome to see some things like honing in person tho.
Are you guys a regular meetup? Maybe I could make another at some point.

I think the last WI meetup was in Kenosha about four years ago. However, there have been a couple of Chicago meetups in the last couple years so that would be closer for you anyway. If you cannot find a meetup that works for you then one on one time with an experienced local member is also very helpful.

Keep an eye on the meetings and get togethers section of the forum. To find a local member do an advanced search in the member list which is a drop down in the community section of the tool bar at the top of the page.

...or you can just contact Obie!
