Thanked: 0Thank you everyone for the warm welcomes!
Been reading up in the the beginner section and perusing around the forum. Good Stuff! A little overwhelming at first.
Thanks for the links @LexTac
Someone else from Omaha! Cool!
Yes, I think it is, but I haven't lived very long in too many other places. Great place to raise a family.
I have been practicing with my plastic knife today! Both the stropping motion, roll over the spine; and shaving stokes, trying to switch hands.
Oh and re-watched a few videos as well. (I have been watching videos off and on for quite some time, like a year or more!)
I will continue reading up and practicing until my razor comes in. When it does, I will have to post up and let you know how it goes!

Welcome to the forum. You sound pretty excited. Make sure you have your styptic pencil, witch hazel and alum block, or crystal deodorant, same thing but easier to find for me. So enjoy the journey.

Thanked: 30I am. It's good to see others posting on here.
Anyway, OP, welcome to SRP. There's going to be a meet up in Iowa at the end of May. I definitely recommend checking it out.

Thanked: 0I am still here, but not active and check in occasionally. I am nearly exclusively shaving with my straight razor, except on a few occasions when I am in a rush. I have added a second straight razor that I alternate and have learned to hone myself for touch-ups. Not sure if that I would want to do any extensive honing to remove nicks or reset a bevel though. Good to see that there some others from around the area!
@vileru, Thanks for the welcome. The meet up in Iowa looks interesting! I will have to consider it with my schedule.

Thanked: 26I have started to do my own honing, with limited success. I bought Naniwa 3k/8k combo and a 12k. I also have a felt strop that I use 0.5 micron CrOx on.
I can certainly shave comfortably after honing but it clearly is not as sharp as when I bought it or after it's been honed by a honemeister.
Am thinking of getting a Naniwa 1k to reset the bevel.
I'd be interested in comparing notes with other Omahans who have some honing experience and success.Steve
