    Default Greetings from NJ

    Hello,

    I wanted to introduce myself. I have been using DE razors for a few years now and enjoy it very much. I have gone through all types of AD you can imagine, soaps, razors, brushes, etc...
    Guess what, now I'm getting a little bored and decided to venture into straights
    Not sure if I have already a new AD, but it sure is looking it. I've watched tons of videos on stropping, honing, shaving, etc... It is fascinating.
    I have recently purchased my first straight, a Towa 220. I have a thing with Japanese people and stuff. I'm married to a Japanese descendant I also bough a couple of Kamisoris and a SRD modular paddle strop. I think I'm set to start giving it a try and will need much of your guys help along this journey.
    Sorry about the long introduction, but I'm really excited about this.

    Welcome to the SRP Forum!

    Make sure that your razors have been professionally honed before you start shaving with them. Many peoples first shave has been very disappointing due to a dull razor.

    Welcome. We all get our little fixations on this or that. I have a thing for JA Henckels razors. Let the fun begin. Nice that you already have a selection of soaps and brushes, now you can concentrate on razors hones and strops. There is tons of information here. If you need any help there is always someone around.

    If you haven't done so already, make sure you read over the beginner's section in the library before your first shave. It will answer a lot of your questions. And feel free to ask us anything else.

    Welcome to an Older but Better Way of Shaving

    It would appear that since you have been using a DE for awhile you have learned about proper prep, lathering etc. I believe that you are off to a good start. That is IF your straight razors are Truly Shave Ready. Factory edges are 'lacking'. If they haven't been custom honed then you will struggle. There are so many variables with this age old art that if you can eliminate as many as possible it will help you immensely.

    While I hone for myself and others I do have a favorite Pro. If you would PM me I'll tell you who would serve you very well.

    Learning to shave with a straight razor has a Huge Learning Curve but once semi mastered it is very rewarding.

    It's a long strange trip but well worth the journey.
