Thanked: 0Hello from Virginia
Hi everyone,
My name is Zack. I'm in southwest Va, not far from Virginia Tech. I've been using a safety razor for a couple of years and, this week, finally made the step up to straight razor. I got a Dovo from AOS. (We were in Orlando.) I also got the small Dovo strop they sell, and the little tube of Thiers-Issard white strop paste. First shave was pretty good. No nics! After we got home, I started digging around here and watching some of Lynn's videos on YouTube. Second shave went well. A little easier than the first. I DEFINITELY need to get a wider strop next.

Welcome to the forum, Zack
The below link will list members/ mentors in your area.
Don't use that strop paste until you have consulted a mentor.

Hi and welcome. I might be an idea to meet with a local as the dovos usually don't come truly shave ready. There is a big difference in able to shave and shave ready. The paste used on one of those little strops will mean one component(usually the linen) will no longer be able to be used for daily use. Do some research on pasted strops before applying it to anything. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask.
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

Thanked: 0Thanks for the welcome and the info guys. I just ordered a 3" latigo strop from SRD. I'll try to hook up with some guys in the area. I had already put a little of that white paste/stick on the leather part of that Dovo strop, per the instructions from the salesperson at AOS. I'll just wait till my new one gets here, before I strop again. I've still got plenty of safety blades.

Thanked: 237If you need help at any point along the way, I'm in blacksburg. I have multiple strops, hones, and have no issues helping you get past the steep learning curve. We can make that dovo truly shave ready.

Thanked: 0Thanks, rolodave. No blues on my part. I kind of go into AOC with some trepidation, as a rule. The resources here more than make up for their misinformation.

Thanked: 0Prodigy,
If you have the time, I'd love to get together and get some help. I'm in Dublin, but work in Salem. We come to Blacksburg and Christiansburg all the time. Thanks for the offer!

Welcome Zack.
I think you'll find a 3" strop easier as a beginner. You may want to consider a paddle strop to make things even easier.Just call me Harold
