Thanked: 2Hello
I started my journey away from cartridges at the beginning of the year with a DE. Everything was good don't get me wrong but my initial goal was to some day start shaving with a straight razor. Thanks to the enablers/good friends over at the shave den I ordered a sight unseen and was sent a bench strop from Drygulch leather works. If I had to guess I have under 10 SR shaves under my belt but I'm loving this journey and it really took off more than DE's ever did. I'm now in search of a second razor and am planning on buying a hanging strop in the near future.
Sorry for rambling it just took me awhile to be able to finally set up an account through my phone. I look forward to making some new friends and sharing my enthusiasm for an art I've come to deeply enjoy.

Thanked: 2I got wonderful shaves with a DE but what I meant was my interest wasn't nearly as strong compared to straights. For now I've taken DE's out of the equation until I can get a smooth comfortable shave with a straight so I can learn faster and then I'll work back in the DE's for days I need a faster shave.

Thanked: 3225Welcome to the forum. Seems like you have it well thought out by concentrating on shaving with a straight razor and leaving the DEs on the sidelines for the time being. If you have any questions the folks here will be glad to try and help answer them. Yes, slow and easy does it.

What straight razor did you get? We need photos.
Smarter than I look or, not as dumb as I look. Whichever you prefer.

Thanked: 2I don't have photos at the moment but I'll post when I get home. It's a Genco Henry XX not sure on the size. I'm probably about to buy one from Glen just trying to figure out how to explain the cost to my wife lol. RAD is starting to itch and I'm not sure how long it can go unscratched.

Hello. It is great to see another person that has given so much thought, determination, and effort to this. It sounds like love at first shave. Those sight unseen razors, although not always the prettiest, usually give people a great start at a reasonable cost. It sounds like you got a winner (correct me if I'm wrong). I can relate to you in that when I switched to a straight razor there was no turning back and since I was determined and researched a lot here and on other sites the learning curve seemed to be shorter than expected. I reckon you will have a similar experience.
What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one

Welcome aboard! I have been learning a ton over here, but it is doing nothing to slow down my RAD. I have pretty much lost my focus with DE at all right now. I totally zoned in on the straights too.
