Welcome! I'm new to the straight razor world as well, and I grew up on the big island, Hilo side. No one shaved with straights or DE's where I'm from, but i'm glad I found an alternative to disposables! I'm never turning back.

Thanked: 0Thanks Brian, I lived Hilo over 30 years; we probably know some of the same people. Rents are so high now in Hilo and they tore down the Filipino camp where I used to live behind Hilo Shopping Center... so I'm buying up country in Eden Roc. I'll bet you really miss Hawaii nei, I would.

Thanked: 0I bought a straight razor!
I remembered shaving with a Swiss Army knife as my mirror and blade without cutting myself, and shaving with a de that wasn't adjusted right, that gave me the worst shaving cut ever... and went for the straight.
It's on it's way.

Now don't forget you need a strop and brush along with some shaving cream/soap
What razor did you get?
Is it shave ready?

Thanked: 228Aloha to you too and welcome to SRP. Another displaced local boy here. Lived in Ewa for a while in my younger days until my parents moved us to Makaha. Waianae H.S. 1968 grad and now living mostly in California. Part time Louisiana/Texas. Take your time with that straight razor. It's not a cane knife. Easy does it. Smooth shaves to you.

I've been DE shaving for a few months and I love it. I actually was born and raised in Pahoa. I do miss it, especially in the winter, but the good jobs aren't there and I don't want to pay $7+/gallon of milk.
Right now, I'm having my straight honed by a pro, and should get it back next week sometime. Can't wait to see the difference.
