Thanked: 0Well, I've spent a lot of time (invested?) reading... I thought of ordering a Sight Unseen Razor and Poor Man's Strop from Larry at Whipped Dog - I've bought a brush from him in the past and it was superb - but the Heljestrand was an excellent price.
Unfortunately, I reckon it does need some work on it to sort out the scales and that nick - perhaps some cosmetic work on those marks also - which is far beyond my pay grade for now.

Thanked: 3222Welcome to the forum. Nice to see someone who has invested their time wisely researching straight razor shaving before jumping in. Looks like it paid dividends in the gear you have selected. I am sure between yourself and your mentor you'll have that razor sorted in no time. Hope you find learning to shave with a SR as enjoyable and satisfying as I have.

Hi and welcome. If you send it for honing and the scales aren't bent then a little pin adjustment should see it centre properly again and the mark looks like a little polish and it should buff out pretty easy. Looks like it is in fairly decent condition and has been cleaned up nicely. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

Thanked: 0The Westholme strop has arrived: a simple 'barbers end' hanging strop with latigo and hemp webbing. Now to decide whether to shave with the razor now or send it off first to sort the small nick.
It has come 'shave ready' - the previous owner apparently used the following preparation before sending it to me:
Naniwa Superstone 3k
Naniwa Superstone 5k
Ohishi 8k
Arkensas natural, CroX and stropping
So, do I have a shave or two before I have the nick sorted or afterwards? Ideas on a postcard...
