Thanked: 0Hello All
Hi. I'm a new member here as well as new to str8 razors. I am an avid blade collector and creator. I recently acquired a str8 in a knife bundle purchase. I know very little but it has sparked my interest. It is marked "W H Sample Capitol Razors". Any information would be greatly appreciated as I would like to bring it back to a condition for personal use. (I have never used a str8.)

Thanked: 4826Welcome. I am not familiar wight the brand. Picture are always nice. Straight razors are very different to sharpen than almost everything else. Not that the theory is any different just the technique. It is very difficult to learn to shave and hone at the same time and it may be best to send it out, get your shaving technique dialed in and then get onto the hones. The hones are a little different than most people uses as well. They start at 1K and then go up. Most stop around 12K but some choose to go to 20K. There is a lot of information here and a ton of friendly and knowledgeable people.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Welcome to the most friendly, helpful and informative site on the web!!
You will find members here of all different backgrounds, ages and occupations from all corners of the world and all with a quest for more knowledge about using and maintaining a straight razor!
If you take the time to search, 99.9% of your questions can be found in the Library (WIKI) however feel free to ask us about whatever it is that you are wondering about or having a problem with. It does help if you’ve done some research before hand so it narrows the problem down a bit.
Now that the formalities are done, again Welcome to an older but better way of shaving
I want to thank you for including your location as it's a great help to see if there is local help. Hands on learning can't be beaten. You will learn more in a few hours than you can after months of reading and watching videos.
There is a Cantankerous Old Fart that I'm proud to call my friend who lives in Fort Worth. If you would like, I'll see if he can find some time to help you. Just send me a PM and I'll see if I can hook you two up.
Now, even though you can learn much with hands on, please go to the Wiki and start reading. That way you will have some knowledge of what you are participating in/either here online or hopefully with hands on learning.
Learning this older but better way of shaving is a Long Strange Trip but it's Well Worth the Journey! Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.

Welcome to SRD. It's great to have another Texan on board. I think you are closer to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area so I would take Roy aka cudarunner up on his offer of his friend in Ft. Worth or you can go here & enter your location to search for other members in your area:
http://straightrazorpalace.com/memberlist.php?do=search
Another great place to start is the Beginners Guide which is in the Library or the link is here:
Straight Razor Place Library:Books/Beginners Guide - Straight Razor Place Library
Here are the Beginner Tips of the Month
Straight Razor Place - Beginners' Tips June 2015
I'm sure you know how to use your computer so I will show no more links but click on anything you can & it is a continuous journey.
Good luck my friend, there is a wealth of information on here.
