Thanked: 0Hi from portsmouth UK
Hello all, my name's Andrew started shaving with a shavette 3months ago and just moved up to a dovo that I lovingly restored with the help of this amazing website. I'm sure I've done it wrong and that although I'm shaving with it it's probably honed terribly but I'm loving the journey.

Thanked: 0Thanks for the warm welcome everyone currently have one 1940 dovo that I have badly restored and a brand new dovo that I'm not going to hone untill I have the technique down, just ordered 2 gold dollar razors to practice on. Had 3 full shaves with a straight with no nicks now and finding it much more forgiving then a shavette. But not all good news just destroyed my strop getting to big for my boots.

Thanked: 0It's a pretty bad job if I'm honest I just removed most of the corrosion and had to replace the scales with some really nasty ones as the bakelite ones cracked when I unpinned them, I plan to finish up when I get round to replacing the scales with some nice ones (not cheap eBay plastic) but it's been fantastic practice and I loved the history of the razor being from 1940 and made in Germany I'd love to know how it journeyed to the UK.

Also here is a link to Lynn's YouTube video's on a little of everything including honing & stropping:

I hope these help. I'm sure some of us would like to see your Dovo.
Good luck my friend!

Thanked: 0I need to finish sanding the blade and fully polish it when I replace the horrible scales but it really has come a very long way from where it began, sadly I will lose all the blade etching by the time I'm finished. Very proud to have taken a rusty daggar to something useable tho.
Sorry for the terrible pics the camera on my phone is not the best.Last edited by LittleFish; 07-07-2015 at 08:11 PM.
