Hello from central Illinois
Hello my name is David and I just started straight razor shaving about 1 week ago. I have been a dbl edge user for the past 4 yrs. But, decided that I would try my hand at this. So far so good I guess. Razor feels like it is pulling the hair, which I imagine is technique. But, my 4th shave last night and it is almost as close as my dbl edge. Anyway there you go.

Hi and welcome. Hopefully you started with a shave ready razor and the tugging is just technique or yhe difference in feel when using a straight and soon this will resolve itself. Any questions feel free to ask and good luck with your shaves.

Thanked: 56Welcome! I switched to straights from safety razors about 2 weeks ago. The tip that worked best for me was "shave the cream, not your face." A good guide to how very little pressure you need to shave.

Glad to have you aboard. Pulling could be technique, lather or the edge. I'd start asking what SR you have and whether it was shave ready. You can experiment with angle of the edge to your face to see what feels best, and watch a few lather videos to see if you're getting that right.
If I were you, I'd answer the first question, and if it was pro-honed, and your lather is comfortable with a DE, then I'd experiment with strokes and angles. One key is to only change one thing at a time, or you won't know what makes the shave better or worse as you vary things.Just call me Harold
