Thanked: 1Brand new
I was directed to the forum by David Gonzalez. I am a daily straight shaver but have only been at it about 6 months. I'm a hobbyist that was supposed to be a minimalist. I like forums that are objective and not drama filled. It's shaving and supposed to be fun. Could never understand anyone that considered it anything else. What people like, they like. As long as you're having fun with it and keeping traditional shaving going....have at it.

Thanked: 56Welcome!
I haven't seen any dama in the short time I've been here, but lots of great advice.
There is a lot of talk about collecting and such, though, so if you're easily tempted, try to stick to reading tip-related rather than gear-related posts. It's easy to get caught up in the passion for different things and want to do some collecting.

Welcome to SRP!
Everyone here tries to act gentlemanly and admit that there is more than one way to do anything. So there is no long running drama here that I'm aware of.
We will gladly make your shave better and more fun - and of course introduce you to ways to be a minimalist with a three lifetimes worth of shave gear. Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead - Charles Bukowski

Hi & welcome to SRP. Sorry, i would have said something sooner but I have been away a few hours at a friends house visiting & watching a great movie. You'll love it here. It's a friendly atmosphere, witty at times but we like to have fun. You might start in the Beginners Guide in the Library & go from there.

Have fun & good luck!

Thanked: 3795Welcome. I understand the concept of minimalism. I first found SRP after participating in the Big Green Egg forum. A new member there introduced himself and listed some of his hobbies. One of them was wet shaving.
I thought that was one of the stupidest things I had ever read. How the h&ll could shaving be a hobby??? How about brushing your teeth or wiping your @$$? Are those hobbies too? I had been shaving with a straight for about 5 years when I found this forum. At that time it was not a hobby, it was just a novel way to shave. I spent most of my time working. I did not do hobbies.
SRP changed that. It opened my eyes to many, many, many alternatives. Honestly, I wanted to experiment with everything. THAT made for the first hobby of my life. It's been a lot of fun.
Now, I just had another random thought...
Lynn started this forum.
Lynn also ends most of his posts with the phrase "Have fun."
You know what? It HAS been a lot of fun. You can be a minimalist or you can go nuts. Either way, SRP has you covered.
Have fun!
