Thanked: 0Sheffield Straight endorsed on tang "Made Expressly for L F Carter"
I recently became the owner this beautiful Sheffield straight with no makers name on it. Its 13/16ths with a large thumb notch with jimps. The tang is endorsed " Made Expressly for L F Carter". I am assuming it is from Sheffield, it looks like it. It may be Wade and Butcher as America was a big market for them. I would love to know the history of this razor. I guy named Billy from Texas has owned it for the past ten years and due to the fact that he owns over one thousand straights he cannot now remember where he purchased it. I am hoping that someone with knowledge of this razor reads this as I would like to know its history.
There are no other markings on the razor apart from what I have stated. Sheffield is not written anywhere on the blade I am just guessing it came from there. I just made these horn scales so they are not original.
Thanks

Thanked: 4826Welcome. If you look at the top row of icons in the posting box, third from the right is an icon that I believe is a picture. Click that icon and you will be prompted for your upload. Everyone here likes pictures. Hopefully it is either shave ready or you know where or how to get it shave ready. We do have a number of members down under that are very capable.

You never know about those Texans with a few razors!
Sounds like L F Carter was a retailer somewhere. Some pics of it may give clues as to it's origins?"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

Hi and welcome. Where in Aus are you. From the info you provided it has the made expressly on it but does it actually say sheffield or England. Those stamps help with time periods.

LF Carter was a retailer. I'm not sure where they were located, but every now and then you'll see something pop up with the name on it (razors and other stuff). All of the razors that I've seen with the stamp were sheffields. Maybe wade and butcher, maybe Reynolds rebrand.
