Hello...newbie here...
Hello everyone. I am new to the forum. Looking forward to learning more about straight razor shaving. I have been a DE wet shaver for a while now. Looking forward to getting into straights. I am starting with shavettes (have 2 on order waiting for them to arrive) ...mostly because of the initial cost outlay for a good straight and strop. I want to make sure this kind of shaving is for me before I invest. While I am waiting for my shavettes to arrive I am making good use of my time reading and watching youtube videos on shavette and straight razor shaving.

Thanked: 56Welcome!
Lots of info available here. Spend time in the library and the beginners area. There are a lot of folks here with a vast amount of knowledge, so questions are responded to very quickly.
Some people say shavettes are harder to use than straights, so if you have trouble, shifting to a straight may be a good idea. You can pick up a shave ready used straight from the classifieds section here, and Straight Razor Designs has reasonably priced strops of good quality.

Welcome to SRP!
I started with a shavette and I like to think it helped me. I still use it every few weeks. The first shave was still a bit nerve racking. Just go slow and start with one cheek. Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead - Charles Bukowski

Hello Whiz and welcome to SRP.
As you already know there is a ton of info here and many members here to guide you in the right direction.
The shavette may be a good way to feel out the straight razor hobby however the shavette is a lot less forgiving and generally speaking offers a less comfortable shave,.... especially for the uninitiated.
The advantage or disadvantage (however one views the subject) is no stropping, no honing, just switch out the blade.
If you can manage a shave with a shavette you are definitely off to the races with a SR.
Good luck and keep us updated on your progress.S.L.A.M.,.......SHAVE LIKE A MAN!!!
