Thanked: 1Greetings from Medina, OH
First straight razor shave today. I think I missed more that I got.
Been shaving with a Parker82 DE for a year.
Need to learn how to get the blade more effective.
SimbaTec Razolution. My son picked out and purchased for me.

Welcome to SRP Scott01, ask questions look around and have fun. Check out the library and beginners section which will help get you going and on the path to great shaves with a straight. Be patient and you will be rewarded. I see you live in Medina, Ohio how convenient one of the forums favorite Shaving gear retailer is located probably minutes away from you. Enjoy your stay.

Welcome to SRP!
The first few shaves are usually not all that great, but as you get more comfortable having a sharp blade on your neck they get better. Until then, just clean up with your DE.
Make sure you check out the beginner's section in the library and ask us any questions you have. Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead - Charles Bukowski

I would suggest you get in touch with Lynn Abrams of SRD, especially given your proximity. He would be able to tell you if the razor is worth honing.

Thanked: 1Scott: This is Dave from Wooster. I grew up in Medina, and your's was the first post I saw here.
Small world. I also just had my first feeble straight shave. Didn't lose much blood. LOL...
Hang in there, and maybe we'll meet up later for coffee and war stories.Older Gillettes and 3 Straights...and counting...

Hi Scott & welcome aboard. Badgister is right, that is one of the ones not to buy. Unfortunately your son thought he was doing you a good deed & was taken which is sad. I'm sorry, he just didn't know. You can look in the Classifieds here & there are members who sell straights shave ready but you will also need a strop if you don't already have one. That is the most important thing needed when owning a straight razor. It takes practice & skill to strop but you can go to the Library here & learn that. You can also use a butter knife to practice with so that you don't cut your strop & dull the edge of your straight razor. If you do cut one, you can sand it out if not bad but if you make a small sliver, you can glue it back down with super glue(CA) or I like rubber cement because it isn't hard but pliable. You will need a good brush, mug & soap also. You can go to Straight Razor Designs & buy a good quality straight & strop in a set, the Ralf Aust is a very good deal but you can also buy the complete setup if you look under Straight Razor Wet Shaving Sets & find the same razor but with a strop, brush, mug & soap. You also have the option to upgrade to a nicer strop depending on your budget. Lynn, owner of this forum is also an owner of SRD. He hones & strops each straight razor before it goes to it's new owner plus you get one free honing for when it needs it. You also may want to get a second straight for when you send one out to be honed. I'll stop here because I don't want this to be too long.
Good luck my friend.Last edited by engine46; 09-28-2015 at 07:54 PM.
