Hi everyone I just as a new member and also just started using straight razor 2 months ago.I started with a stainless steel Master razor big problems right out of box (no edge)so I honed the blade using a Norton 4k-8k wet stone I was able to get a knife sharp edge on it and is as best as it got.So I sent back for refund and bought a Dovo straight razor great.I honed and stroped blade before first shave and I am hooked!I have been watching all of Lynn Abrams video's trying to get all the advise can get.I have to get one of the t-shirts he is always wearing on video's.does anyone know where I can purchase one.have a great day all.

Hi & welcome aboard. When you buy a new straight, you should just try it at first or see if it will shave arm hair. Many though will say shave ready but they won't be. You most importantly need to know how to strop. After a couple of months, you might have the feel of it already. It would be good for you, if you haven't yet, check out the Beginners Guide in the Library & go from there. You may have already noticed the wealth of information on here. Lynn's YouTube vids are great too so it is good you have been watching those. You really don't know exactly how shave ready feels so if I were a beginner, I would send it out to be honed by a pro. On the other hand, you might have the skills to do so as some can pick things up right away but if you do decide to send it out, it is a good idea to have a spare so that you aren't w/o a razor plus just in case you accidentally bump the faucet or drop it & chip a blade. it has happened to the best of us & it makes one sick when it happens.
You're in the right place though to learn all you can about a straight razor. There are many knowledgable members on here so any questions just ask.

Dovos are meant to be pretty good razors, I haven't owned one personally though. I would have thought that with proper care, I.e. stropping and occasional touch ups as required what you have would be fine. It might be worthwhile having a professional edge put on it so that you can see where your honing is at in comparison.
You will really need to learn good stropping technique though as this is your daily maintenance.
