Default 1st attempted over the weekend

I used a SE for the first time of the weekend. I did each cheek WTG and nicked myself twice. I look forward to becoming more comfortable with the blade and trashing my disposable razors (yuck, am I right)

I am curious about cleaning up after a shave. With leftover soap (Don Marco) in the bowl, can I leave it there and whip it up again to use again? or should I sink the leftover suds?

Thank you for the community. I have been a lurker on SRP for awhile and just registered. I hope to stick around and be part of this community.

I think you did well just starting on your cheek, lots of people try to rush and that is a bad idea. Make sure you don't open the nicks back up when you give it another go! Try to shave more area each time, and I would stay wtg only until you really get comfortable
As for the soap, I usually squeeze the soap from my brush back into the bowl. It will dry and be perfectly able to help me shave the next day. It probably loses some scent, but it also means that one cake of soap lasts me for months.
Welcome and enjoy your new hobby!

Welcome to Straight Razor Place, aedico.

I usually rinse my scuttle out since I like to switch soaps or creams every shave.

Hi medico & welcome aboard. You did the right thing to want to get rid of the disposables. You can get a much beets shave with a DE or a straight. The straight is best if you eventually work your way there. There is info here for people who use DE razors though. I have a few older ones. The blades are different but you can buy sample packs of different blades to see what works best for you. You're in the right place & great to have you here. As for the soap, you can save it & re-use it or you can also clean up with it. After all it is soap. Next thing you know though, you might end up with several different types of soaps which is okay.
    Any questions, just ask.
    Good luck my friend.

    Welcome to SRP!
Sounds like a good start. I'd recommend getting a blade sampler pack as well. Some blades just don't agree with your face.
As for the soap, I usually dump mine after the shave because I change soaps every day and soap is cheap.

Hi and welcome. Dumping or saving soaps and lather is a personal choice but I know some do. Personally I don't but I change it up constantly. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask

As to the soap. If you have a good, or better, sense of smell then half of your choices in soap/creams are based on aroma. Going by that assumption you will most likely prefer to clean the bowl and use a new one each day. If you are among the scent challenged, as am I, I use an uber-lather. That is a combination of soaps and creams chosen for only the way they build lather together. I've found that, generally, my soaps/creams last longer. I do clean out the bowl about every two weeks because of buildup of overly dry lather. Plus it's enjoyable to start fresh every so often with a different starting combo.

    Welcome aboard!
Take your time and watch videos, they help, at least they helped me a lot.
Regarding the soap, I like my scuttle clean, always clean it after each use.
    Enjoy the journey.
    Cheers.
