New
Hi, i neglected to do this before.
So here I am, Georg, living in the Netherlands and shaving with a straight for about two weeks now.
Started with sides onley but since I had no problem doing so moved to whole face pretty quick.
Still strugling with facial acrobatics a bit but had two full face shaves now.
Only problem I have is drying up foam.
Wil have to learn how to balance soap and water better.
I like to take the time, being male I noticed we tend to not take time to take care of ourselves (at least I never did, I don't like fidling in front of mirrors and smearing stuff on my face) so I'm making this "my time".
My experience is that I am more relaxed when I take the time and it helps (almost meditative) getting that one moment of Ego-time we all need.
I can recommend it and am sure to stick with it.
Happy shaving

You said drying "foam". What soap or cream are you using to lather? A good lather (not canned stuff) is one of the basic keys to a good SR shave. Let us know and we can give some advice on that subject.

Welcome to SRP!
Sometimes shaving is the only quiet, relaxing 30 minutes to an hour I get all day. What was once a 5 minute chore with a cartridge razor is now one of the things I look forward to.
For your drying lather issue, try soaping up only a part of your face at a time. As you get better with the straight it won't take as long to shave and you'll be done with each pass before the lather dries out. Most of my soaps get dry on my face after about 10 minutes and in the beginning it would take me about 20 minutes to do one pass, so I had to partially lather my face for the first few weeks.
And if you are using canned shaving cream then I would suggest you get a shaving soap instead. The canned stuff isn't really slick enough for use with a straight. Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead - Charles Bukowski

Welcome! The above advice about lathering part of your face at a time is good, I learned to to that myself because I took so long to shave. Watch some videos, ask lots of questions, and most of all have fun shaving now!

Hi Georg & welcome aboard. Sorry I'm late to the party but I have been busy.
I have found that using some shaving soap on my face one side at a time when first starting out worked best for me. The soaps are all different & so are the creams that come in a flat metal can which you use a brush for applying. You might have to experiment with a few until you find one you like with a nice scent. Just take your time & it will all work out for you. There is a wealth of information here so you have some research to do but it is fun doing it & finding out new things.
Good luck my friend.

I use an old dutch brand called "gouden hand". Comes in bars and plastic cups.
