Hello All
Been reading these forums and articles for about a week now. Thrilled with all the info available as well as the number of enthusiasts. Awesome thing to have so many of various degrees able to share insight and experience.
My name is Max, 27 years old, in Englishtown, NJ. Just had a daughter 12/28/14 and my son should be popping out within the next 7 weeks so. I've been using a Dovo Shavette while I gathered enough information and opinions to make the first SR plus supplies purchase.
I figure I have about 14 years to get so good I can teach my son how to not cut his throat. Don't come from/make much money so a nice broken in straight razor, strop, and some skill might be about the only thing I'll have to pass on to him
Well that's alittle about me, also would be great to meet up if anyone is in the area, get some hands on experience stropping, honing, maneuvering the blade etc. Anywhere between Sayreville, NJ and Long Branch, NJ is pretty doable. I was searching members individually but that's a heck of a process.
Alrighty then, thanks for letting me rant.

Welcome Max. I like your desire to find local members. Check the Local Help list on the left side of the home page. That's a good start. I am also sure that any members near you, on reading your post, will contact you.

Welcome to SRP!
I'm glad you've been reading up before purchase. The library here is a black hole that can suck you in for hours on end.
If you are on a tight budget, Larry at WhippedDog.com sales some "not so pretty" razors at a low price, but they are fully shave ready. The classifieds here are another option.

That's a good call, just ordered his sight unseen razor and poor man strop kit, figure for 68 bucks I'll have everything I need for about a year or so. When I'm ready for a classy SR at least I'll have the hang of stropping, manuevering, etc. Not to mention a SR for a rotation. Thanks for the advice on that, can't wait to start bleeding!

Welcome to the forum Maxx. Once you receive your SR and strop from WD, post a few photos. Show us what you get. Hope they do the trick for you. Tell us how you get on. Good luck.

Actually I got a little turned off by some of the replies I got to my whipped dog thread and so I went the high road. Snagged the F.W.E. Special 6/8ths Don had in the classifieds and the all natural strop from SDR. I can't wait to post photos of them after I get them and christen them though!

Good choices Maxx. Be careful with that edge, practice your stropping with a blunt knife and take your time! Slow and steady wins the race.
