    Hello and welcome to SRP.
If I were you, I would look at some of the forums in the beginners section and see what others have said about the first razors they got. I'm not sure where boomtown is at. That would be another factor where you would want to purchase any of the items you are inquiring about. I know more people will chime in over time.

    Hi and welcome to SRP.

I second Willis's comments and will add to that by pointing you to the "library". You will find a link at the top of this page or you may chose to use the following:

Straight Razor Place Library - Straight Razor Place Library

You'll find plenty of good reading and advice there. It covers the basics when you are starting out. If you have questions that cannot be answered there, it's time to start posting queries in the appropriate section for your needs.

    Regards

    Christian

Well not boomtown anymore, may I suggest looking thru the classifieds for a razor most of these guys will get you that is truly shave ready, stick with simple ,m5/8-6/8 round tip ,mand a good basic strop, decent soap and brush(can be had reasonable) and then read as much as you can. Go slow and take the advise given(another point I can't stress enough) and be prepared to struggle a little for it takes time to get a great shave, but worth the time.
Good luck and ask a lot of questions. Tc. Oh plus for most of the products SRD has all of it not to mention some bargain sellers like Whipped Dog.

Hey crash541, being new myself I can understand the overwhelming feeling. There are so many options available and it is a process trying to sort all that. Like the others have mentioned, ask questions. Everyone on here is very nice and give solid advice, at least that is my experience thus far. Like tcrideshd said, keep things simple. At first getting a good lather, and keeping the blade correctly on your mug is enough to keep track of. It took me several shaves before getting a decent shave and I am still hit and miss on that and you are going to knick yourself so be prepared for that and accept it. I recommend a 3 inch strop as IME it makes stropping a bit easier, not having to learn an X stroke and whatnot. Research and find something you like as far as a razor goes. I made my purchase through SRD and I am very pleased with the package I received from them. It shipped quickly and everything was packaged well to avoid damage.
I went with a 5/8 round point Dovo. I really love the look of spike points and all the different styles are super cool but from my beginner view I am glad I did not get a spike for my first razor. Reason being is there have been a couple times that if I had a spike or the like I would have had some serious ear injuries and probably neck. There is more going on with a straight than a cartridge so it is easy to loose track of what you are doing and a round point is safer and wiser IMO. This is a long post I know but I like sharing my newb info so that I can help others get going in this. It is truly enjoyable, its your time. With all this said research, ask ?'s and take your time can not stress that one enough. Other than that enjoy and shave on
